The St. Thomas Police Service is now answering emergency calls and dispatching officers for the Aylmer Police Service.
Communications staff with St. Thomas police began taking Aylmer calls for service on Monday.
The new partnership between the two police services is expected to enhance public safety in both cities.
Prior to this new agreement, dispatching for the Aylmer Police Service was handled by a communications centre in Owen Sound.
"Bringing the service closer to home with communicators that have a familiarity with the area is on point with the service’s vision to provide the highest quality of service to the community of Aylmer," St. Thomas police said in a statement.
Those wanting to contact Aylmer police in person can continue to do so by visiting their local front office. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Non-emergency phone numbers for Aylmer police remain the same.
