What's open, closed and what's happening this Civic Holiday

Families in London will have no shortage of fun activities to keep them occupied on Civic Holiday Monday.

People who have the day off can visit Victoria Park for the final day of RibFest. Ten ribbers and 16 craft brewers and distillers have set-up on Wellington Street between Dufferin Avenue and Wolfe Street. There are also two stages of live music, midway rides and a variety of other vendors inside the downtown park. Admission is free.

The London Children's Museum will host its Messy Monday art program from 10:30 a.m. to noon and its STEAM: Bottle Rockets science experiment from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The City of London is offering free activities and drop-in programs at recreation centres and community pools. Activities include recreational swims, basketball, badminton, and aquafit. Registration is only required for public skating at StarTech.com Community Centre

"Recreation staff have worked hard to arrange these opportunities so Londoners can stay active or try something new,” said Jon-Paul McGonigle, the city's director of recreation and sport. “Please visit the website to see what’s available and take in a free program or two.”

The city's spray pads, wading pools or outdoor pools will also be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for those looking to beat the heat. A list of the spray pads and their activation buttons can be found by clicking here.

The holiday could be a wet one, as Environment Canada is calling for showers and a below seasonal daytime high of 23 C.
