Western Fair announces first of six concerts

A Canadian rock band has been unveiled as the headliner for one of six nights of concerts coming to the Western Fair this September.

Toronto-based July Talk will take to the stage on the first night of the fair's Stadium Series at the Sports Centre on September 10. The alternative rock band is known for hits "Guns and Ammunition", "Picturing Love", and "Summer Dress". The band's self-titled debut album won the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year in 2015. Since then they have released three additional albums, including their most recent Remember Never Before which dropped last year.

Anishnaabe duo Ombiigizi will open for July Talk. A collaboration by Indigenous musicians Zoon (Daniel Monkman) and Status/Non Status (Adam Sturgeon), Ombiigizi imbue lyrics with family storytelling, revealing truths and finding common ground amidst differences. It's debut album, entitled Sewn Back Together, was released in 2022 and was shortlisted for that year's Polaris Music Prize.

Tickets for the September 10 show go on sale on June 21 at 10 a.m. Admission to the fair is included in the price of the ticket, which ranges from $55 to $65, plus HST and fees.

The Western Fair Stadium Series will include indoor shows on three separate nights, while the Ranch Outdoor Concert Series will also have three nights of shows. Headliners for the remaining five concerts will be announced throughout the month, according to the Western Fair.
