Counterfeit Cash Turns Up In Meaford

The Grey County OPP has added Meaford to the lists of communities hit with some counterfeit American money.

Owen Sound police reported two instances in its jurisdiction this week of a woman using phony American $20 bills to buy merchandise. She was successful at one business, but not at another.

Wednesday afternoon, a female suspect entered two hardware stores in Meaford and used nearly $600 of the counterfeit cash to purchase two TVs and an impact drill.

The money was found to be counterfeit.

The suspect is described as white female, 20-25 years old, approximately 5’4” tall, medium build, dark hair pulled up into a pony tail, wearing a white t-shirt under a light weight grey coloured zip up jacket/hoodie and tight blue jeans.

The serial numbers on the counterfeit bills identified are: ML16141754D, ML16141507D, ML16141513D.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
