Doors Open At The New Owen Sound District Secondary School

The first day of school is a big one this year for Owen Sound high school students.

Today is day one of the new Owen Sound District Secondary School.

The former West Hill Secondary School has reopened and is now accommodating all the students from O-S-C-V-I.

This as a result of a Bluewater School Board decision to amalgamate the two schools.

The new facility has co-principals. Lucy Hilts was the principal at West Hill and Matt Pickett the principal at O-S-C-V-I. Pickett says they're working to make the transition as smooth as possible.

"It's like a first day of school for everybody including the principals. Miss Hilts and I are excited about it and we're working hard to make the school a great place to be," says Pickett.

Tuesday just grade nine students are in Owen Sound and District Secondary School getting an introduction to their new environment.

Wednesday the rest will arrive.

The school will have over 13 hundred students. Four portables will be in use to accommodate everyone.
