It looks like a development proposed for the south end of Wiarton will not require an Ontario Municipal Board hearing.
South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson says an agreement has been reached between the developers of the proposed Wiarton Meadows adult-lifestyle community and Sparling's Propane, which had filed an appeal with the OMB.
Sparling's had voiced concern during the public consultation period over plans to locate a portion of the development within the hazard radius of their propane storage facility on the opposite side of Hwy. 6.
Jackson says the two sides came to a logical compromise and the developers have agreed to relocate a proposed retirement home elsewhere on the 240-acre parcel.
She says there's relief that the development appears to have avoided an appeal.
"It'll just allow the developers to go ahead a lot quicker and start their development," says Jackson. "They've already had a seven or eight-year delay trying to get their development into Wiarton and then to have another delay from a local business that isn't crazy about it is very frustrating."
The Wiarton Meadows development will initially move ahead with about 150 residential units, but additional phases could see as many as 1,500 units of residential and commercial development, potentially doubling the size of Wiarton.
