Two Owen Sound residents are featured in a 150th Anniversary project depicting what it means to be a Canadian in Ontario.
Verona Jackson and Michael McLuhan were approached by the Lieutenant Governor's Office to provide 150 words about their patriotism. They are among 150 Canadians who submitted their stories.
Jackson's story highlights volunteerism and vibrancy in small town Ontario, while McLuhan discusses the solace his family found in Ontario.
The stories have been categorized under four sections: A place to grow, Keep it beautiful, Caring Canadians, and Ontario in the world.
Other contributors include penny Oleksiak, James Bartleman, Charlotte Grey and Roberta Bondar.
“The Owen Sound area has a fascinating history of notable residents,” says Mayor Ian Boddy. “Verona and Michael are two excellent choices for this unique anniversary project. I find their stories, and those of their compatriots, to be compelling and especially poignant today.”
