Crews are busy working on the construction of a protected enclosure at the side of the Huron County Courthouse in Goderich.
Technical Services Manager Jeff Kerslake says the enclosure is being constructed in advance of a murder trial and will be removed when the trial is over. Jury selection for the trial of 73-year-old Boris Panovski starts on May 8th. He's charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Don Frigo of Toronto and the wounding of his wife Eva at the Hullett Provincial Wildlife area in September of 2014.
Kerslake explains the construction of the enclosure as a temporary base and chain link fence that will provide privacy and protection for anyone that is brought into the courthouse by the OPP. Kerslake says the fence is twelve feet high, with no roof and police vehicle can drive right up to OPP secured entrance in the basement of the courthouse. The cost for the enclosure is being covered by the Province.
“I think the temporary portion of it is more of a, the construction type of it, it's more of a temporary base and a temporary chain link fence, and it will come down after the trial is complete.”
“Where the OPP would bring the person of interest in and they would go right in the OPP secured entrance in the basement of the courthouse. So there's a fence with no roof, twelve feet in height, total, with privacy fence wrapped around it.”
