Perth County Severe Weather Seminar Thursday

Perth County is hosting the “When It Rains It Pours” severe weather seminar Thursday to mark National Emergency Preparedness Week.

The week is devoted to reinforcing the importance of emergency readiness.

Perth County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Colvin says this year’s wild spring weather serves as a reminder that flooding and ice storms can and do happen in our part of Ontario.

The weather seminar “When It Rains It Pours” takes place from 1pm until 4pm Thursday. Two guest speakers will provide information to area responders and emergency management program officials on their experiences.

Weather Network broadcaster Chris St. Clair will talk about Climate Change, more extreme weather and what we can expect in the coming years.    He'll share some stories about significant events that he has covered and his observations on first responders in those events.

Tecumseh's Chief Administrative Officer Tony Haddad will speak about their flooding experiences during two severe storm events within 12 months

The severe flooding affected hundreds of homes and the presentation will highlight issues related to the emergency response, the Emergency Operations Centre, communications and steps taken to raise awareness and educate residents in the community.

To learn more about emergency preparedness and download their preparedness materials, visit www.perthcounty.ca/emergency or follow them on Twitter and Facebook. Use the hashtag #PrepareYourSelfie to show how you are prepared.
