Local organizations are urging residents to remember Giving Tuesday.
The day after Cyber Monday marks the beginning of year-end donations.
The Bruce County Museum has suggested you donate to its“Have a Seat Campaign,” the Endowment Fund, or just by donating artifacts. You could also become a volunteer.
The United Way Perth Huron said Giving Tuesday is a worldwide effort to encourage people to give back to the community.
Executive Director Ryan Erb said they will match all donations up to $25,000 until the end of Giving Tuesday.
He said the money will help many people in Perth and Huron Counties who are struggling. He added half of the households in the region earn less than the recently announced living wage of $17.55 an hour.
“Giving Tuesday is a great way to give back to the community,” added Erb. “Especially at a time of year when so much of the focus is on shopping and buying, this is a chance to make a statement of caring.”
You can also donate to the CKNX Relief Truck Christmas campaign. CKNX morning man Buzz Reynolds is living in a cold and empty 53-foot truck trailer parked at Dean’s Valu-Mart in Wingham.
Buzz will live in there, and broadcast his morning radio show from there until that trailer — and possibly a second trailer — is full of non-perishable food items. All donations of food and cash go to food banks across Huron County.
There will also be a trailer parked at Kaufman’s Valu-Mart in Walkerton, and the goal is to fill that trailer for the Walkerton Food Bank.
