Hanover Police have charged a Toronto woman after reports of identity theft from a local car dealership.
The investigation started November 19, when police were called about suspicious interactions between sales staff and a potential customer, which included documents provided by email.
Police say on the 20th, the suspect went to the dealership in person to close the deal on a new vehicle purchase with full financing totaling $70,000. Plainclothes police officers were there during the interaction and once the deal closed arrested the suspect. During the transaction police say the suspect was wearing a wig and a bandana to conceal her identity and had fake government documents that included the name of another person that was being used during the transaction.
A 31-year old woman from Toronto faces several charges including: Possession of Identity Documents – Section 56.1 CC x 2 Use a Forged Document – Section 368(1)(a) CC x 2 Fraud Over $5,000 – Section 380(1) CC Identity Theft – Possess Another Person’s Identity Information – Section 402.2(1) CC x 2 Personation with Intent – Section 403(2)(b) CC x 2 Having a False Insurance Card Section 13.1(1)(a) Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The charges have yet to be proven in court.
