A new family is calling a Habitat for Humanity build in Wiarton home.
Don, Angie, and their two children, are purchasing the home after the first homeowners “graduated” from Habitat’s affordable homeownership program, after living in the residence since 2009.
Through Habitat’s program, original residents Alan and Kim, were able to purchase their home and gain financial stability while raising their son.
Families in need of affordable housing qualify for Habitat’s homeownership program by completing an extensive application process.
During the celebration, Angie expressed her gratitude to friends, family, and Habitat for Humanity.
"We wanted to share our genuine gratitude to every single one of you and to all of our family and friends that helped for all of their hard work on the house and to making sure that it was done for us in time," said Angie. "We are so incredibly thankful that Lucas gets to continue his education with familiar faces and that we are so close to the school in case of an emergency and that Aubree gets to join him there this year.”
Habitat finances the purchase of the houses they build with a zero down payment and zero interest mortgage and payments set at 25 per cent of household income. Monthly mortgage payments to Habitat will help fund the construction of new homes for other families in need of affordable housing.
