Bruce Power gives $1 million to affordable housing project

Bruce Power is contributing $1,000,000 toward an affordable housing project in Huron County.

The County announced on Wednesday that the company will be putting the generous donation towards the Gibbons Street Affordable Housing Project in Goderich.

"We are immensely grateful to Bruce Power for this generous contribution towards the Gibbons Street Affordable Housing Development," said Huron County Warden Glen McNeil. "Bruce Power’s support not only recognizes the innovative nature of this project but also underscores the power of collaboration between the private sector and local government in effecting positive change within our community."

The 40-unit apartment building will contain a mix of one and two-bedroom units suitable for both individuals and families. It will provide a mix of units including affordable, rent-geared-to income, and supported units.

The over $13 million project is being funded by local, provincial, and federal governments, as well as private sector contributors.

"Bruce Power is proud to support the Gibbons Street Affordable Housing Development as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening communities and providing sustainable solutions to local challenges," said James Scognack, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President at Bruce Power. "Access to affordable housing is a fundamental need, and we are thrilled to contribute to a project that will have a lasting, positive impact on residents in Huron County."

The development is slated to be completed by late 2025 or early 2026.

Donations are still welcome. To learn more, visit the County's website.
