The Stratford Police Service has charged a man and a woman that allegedly stole a local food truck and attempted to steal a skid steer from another business.
According to police, the owner of Annie's Seafood Restaurant reported on Saturday morning that their food truck was stolen overnight.
A review of surveillance footage showed that a man and woman stole the truck around 3:30 a.m. The two were operating a blue Ford pickup truck with the licence plate AP91334. The truck was later located on Road 111, with several items missing.
The following morning, police received another report of a robbery in progress at a business along Griffith Road.
Officers arriving on scene said they found a man and woman, driving the same blue pickup truck, attempting to steal a skid steer. The truck was a towing a trailer, which police said was also stolen.
According to police, the man attempted to flee but was blocked in by police cars. They said he had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle, as he kept hitting the accelerator and hitting the cruisers that were blocking the way. The man was restrained and placed under arrest, while the woman turned herself in.
The 49-year-old Hamilton man faces charges including theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, assault of an officer, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. The 54-year-old woman, also of Hamilton, faces charges for theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, and possession of break-in instruments.
The pair were taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
