Snowy conditions slow Tuesday morning commute

Drivers across midwestern Ontario had to quickly remember their winter driving skills Tuesday morning.

Lake effect snow reduced visibility to near zero in spots and left some roads difficult to navigate due to heavy accumulation. Environment Canada warned an additional 5 to 15 centimetres of snow could fall before conditions begin to improve around noon.

A snow squall warning is in place for Huron, Perth, Grey, and southern Bruce counties, while a winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Bruce Peninsula and northern Wellington County.

OPP were called about collisions and vehicles in the ditch across the region, but none that resulted in serious injury.

All school buses in Meaford and Thornbury, as well as some in Huron, Perth and northern Wellington counties were cancelled for the day. The full list can be found on the CKNXNewsToday.ca closures page.

Environment Canada anticipates conditions will improve from south to north by early Tuesday afternoon. The daytime high is expected to rise to plus 3 C. For Wednesday, midwestern Ontarians can switch from snow boots to rain boots with showers and a high of 5 C forecasted.
