A Toronto man who allegedly used stolen credit cards to buy tires from numerous dealerships has been arrested by the Hanover Police Service.
Hanover police say they were contacted by a woman in Saskatchewan on February 25 who claimed her stolen credit card had been used that day to purchase eight new truck tires at a car dealership in Hanover.
Investigators determined the suspect had set up the purchase over the phone and was planning to pick up the tires at a later date. On February 27, Hanover Police officers in plain clothes waited at the dealership and arrested a suspect.
A search warrant on a U-Haul van rented to the suspect at the time saw officers recover eight additional tires that were confirmed to be purchased from a car dealership in Listowel and a second dealership in Elmira with stolen credit cards and fake Ontario driver’s licences.
A 27-year-old Toronto man is charged with fraud under $5000, unlawful use of a credit card, and possession of property obtained by crime. He appeared for a bail hearing where he was remanded into custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
