Conservation measures by residents in Owen Sound helped stabilize the municipal system faster than expected, following a call for the community to limit non-essential water use until full service could resume at the water treatment facility.
City officials thanked the community for reducing non-essential water consumption over the past week and a half, noting those efforts helped preserve the system while crews worked to restore reservoir levels. Those collective efforts contributed to a swift rebound, with the reservoir now fully replenished and the local water supply considered stable and dependable. Cloudy water in the system prompted a precautionary boil water advisory which was issued on March 14. The boil water advisory was lifted March 16.
With conditions returning to normal, the bulk water fill station at the Public Works administration building has also reopened to the public.
Municipal leaders noted that while restrictions have been lifted, residents are still encouraged to practice mindful water use as part of ongoing sustainability efforts.
The City of Owen Sound water treatment and distribution network spans approximately 142 kilometres of pipe and serves about 7,000 connections across the community.
