In a bid to ensure seniors in Perth and Wellington counties don't feel socially isolated, the provincial government is providing $75,000 to three local programs.
Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced the funding through the Seniors Community Grants program on Friday.
Hermione Presents, the Township of Wellington North, and Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth will each receive $25,000.
“As more residents enter their golden years, it is important that they have access to programs, services, and community spaces that help them stay active, connected, and engaged,” Rae said in a statement. “Throughout Seniors Month, it has been a pleasure to recognize the organizations and volunteers who support seniors across our communities and to highlight our government’s investments in programs that help improve their quality of life.”
Hermione Presents will use its share of the money to run "Puppets, People and Play: Skills and Connections" in Stratford. Wellington North will put its portion of the money into the "Treks and Ties: Social Journeys for Older Adults" program, while Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth's $25,000 will help fund the community caregiver connection program.
The Seniors Community Grants program was created in 2018 to help reduce social isolation, fight ageism, and create positive connections for seniors. Since then, the province has provided more than 2,100 grants totaling over $40 million for seniors programming throughout Ontario.
