Public Health investigating two dog bites in Owen Sound and Hanover

Grey Bruce Public Health is investigating two unrelated dog biting incidents that took place recently in Owen Sound and Hanover.

According to public health officials, the Owen Sound incident took place between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m. near the duck pond at Harrison Park on June 23. A mother and her child were walking and another woman walking two dogs walked by, when one of the dogs bit one of either the mother or child. That was not specified. Both of the dogs were medium-sized and wearing collars and leashes. One of the dogs was a mixed retriever breed with blonde colouring, while the other was an unknown breed with brindle colouring.

The Hanover bite happened at about 7:30 p.m. on June 24 outside of an apartment building at 160 11th Avenue. An individual was bitten by a large black Bull Mastiff-type dog, which was not with its owner at the time of the incident. However, the victim believes the owner lives nearby.

Staff at Grey Bruce Public Health need to confirm the dogs involved in these biting incidents are not infectious with rabies. If you have any information, contact Grey Bruce Public Health.
