Local Goaltenders Strong in CIS

A pair of goalies from Huron County are starting their university hockey playoff runs after posting solid seasons.

Western Mustangs goaltender Greg Dodds has seen a lot of praise in his first year as a starter in university hockey. The native of Wingham started the season with the top stats among all goaltenders in Ontario and top 5 in the country, earning athlete of the week honors along the way. Given the reigns of the top job for the London school, Dodds ended the season with a record of 14-7-0 as the Mustangs finished second in the Western Conference.

Along with solid record, Dodds finished in the top 10 for a number of categories among goaltenders. He was 2nd in wins (14), 6th in goals-against-average (2.45), 6th in save percentage (.919) and 10th in saves (590). He also stacked up in the top 20 nationally among all university goalies.

For Blyth's Anthony Peters, his St. Mary's University in Halifax finished third in the Atlantic. Peters played in 23 of his side's 28 games, with a record of 16-7-0. The senior joins Dodds among the top goalies in the league.

This season, Peters finished 2nd in Atlantic Canada in wins (16) and save percentage (.926). He also made the most saves in the league (665) and was 4th in goals-against-average (2.30). Peters was also among the top 20 in the country in these categories.

Playoffs have already began out east for Peters and his team. St.Mary's beat Moncton 2-0 in their first game. For Greg Dodds and Western, playoffs start tonight against Lakehead.
