Listowel Puts Top Seed Sugar Kings to The Test

Defence has continued to keep the Listowel Cyclones rolling in February. Despite a 3-2 loss to the Elmira, Listowel took the Midwestern division's top team the distance. Listowel has continued to spell trouble opponents, averaging less than 2 goals a game in the past 5 games.

It would be the host Sugar Kings taking control early. Brendan Schneider got the scoring going in the first. Derek Elliot would respond for Listowel before Mitch Wright and Mitch Klie gave Elmira a lead into the break.

The Cyclones had trouble getting back in the second. If not for 18 saves from Ryan Hergott, it could have been a much different game at intermission. The best chance came from an unsuccessful penalty shot from Ray McFalls.

During the third, an early power play gave the Cyclones a chance to narrow the margin. Keaton Willis found the net but the visitors were unable to find one more.

Over the course of the night Listowel proved to be a thorn in the side of Elmira. The team appears to have found their shape as of late with the loss being only their second in the month. February has been kind to the Cyclones, who have allowed only 9 goals in their last 6 games. Only three more games remain before the start of playoffs.
