Long-time UCC Music Teacher Remembered

Sister Mercedes Dionne is being remembered in Chatham today for her love of music and her decades of work in the Ursuline College community.

She passed away over the weekend at the age of 97.

Sister Mercedes started teaching music at UCC in Chatham in 1939 and continued on until the music school closed in 1986.

"She breathed life into the music and into the students that she was working with," says Ursuline Sister Theresa Campeau. "She had a passion for music and brought out the passion in others for music."

And while Sister Mercedes' passion often led to her help students, her heart extended beyond that.

"She loved the community and would do anything for the community," says Sister Theresa. "She had a wonderful sense of humour that was complemented by her music -- she had a wonderful presence."

Sister Mercedes' funeral is being held at 10am this morning at Villa Angela in Chatham.
