Cole Thompson capped off an outstanding season by taking both Motos Sunday at the RJ Motosport Park in Barrie.
Thompson, with KTM Canada Thor Racing, had already solidified first overall in the MX2 class (250cc), having picked up six overall victories in nine rounds, heading into the circuit's final weekend.
"It was a good summer with a lot of racing, and obviously picking up wins like I did helps, and makes it a lot more fun," says Thompson.
The ten round series began in Kamloops, BC in early June, and Thompson has topped the standings throughout the summer. He says he needed to remain focused despite knowing he already led the circuit.
Winning the championship in front of friends and family was the icing on the cake for Thompson.
"You race all summer for that moment, everyone works all year to get to that spot, and win the number one plate, it was great to have my family there to wrap it up," he says.
It was Thompson's second year racing professionally on the Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals circuit.
Thompson says he plans on returning to MX2 next summer to defend his championship, but not before he races supercross in the United States over the winter months.
