The chief of Wyoming's fire department has stepped down, although Mike Vasey will continue on as a volunteer firefighter.
Earlier this month, the Town of Plympton-Wyoming selected Steve Clemens as director of fire and emergency services and fire chief to enhance the municipal service and amalgamate the Camlachie and Wyoming stations.
Town CAO Carolyn Tripp says Clemens will recommend how to fill Vasey's position.
"We are waiting for our new chief, Steve Clemens, to start on December 31," says Tripp. "He will evaluate our current fire service and determine what needs we have as far as additional positions and in all likelihood we will reinstate a new Station Chief in Wyoming but we will wait and see what Steve has to say."
Vasey has been chief of the Wyoming department since January 8, 2014.
Tripp says Clemens will be responsible for the administration of the department including the budget, fire safety, emergency management and health and safety.
Station chiefs in Wyoming and Camlachie will take care of day-to-day operations including fire response.
