Local runners were the top male and female finishers in the 42nd YMCA-CHOK International Bridge Race Sunday.

Port Lambton native Taylor Kraayenbrink, 29, was the first to cross the finish line at Canatara Park in a time of 32 minutes 11.6 seconds.

41-year-old Brandi Victor of Sarnia was the fastest woman, 16th overall, in 41:42.4.

A first time winner of the bridge race, Kraayenbrink said the event is "super cool."

"It's always really well organized, and I love the course," said Kraayenbrink. "It's fun running over the bridge, who doesn't want to do that?"

Kraayenbrink, who lives in Bright's Grove now, has been running for 13 years and his primary event is the marathon.

"I was fifth at the Canadian marathon championships this past year and I qualified for the Pan Am Games marathon, I'm hoping to run it but I haven't been announced for the team yet. The Canadian Olympic team still has to select me, they announce the team June 14," he said.

Victor was top female at the race for the second time. She previously won in 2015, the only year the Blue Water Bridge was not part of the course due to construction.

"It's pretty cool running over the bridge and the 10K is a good opportunity to push yourself," said Victor. "It hurts a little bit but I like that."

Victor is a teacher at Northern high school and helps out with the track team there.

Nearly 400 runners registered for Sunday's race that started at 8 a.m. at Pine Grove Park, Port Huron.

Full results can be found here.

All funds raised from the event go to support the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
