A Sarnia staffing company is looking to help a local non-profit weather the pandemic storm, while also putting unemployed individuals to work.
Express Employment Professionals on Christina Street is hosting the Pay it Forward Hiring Drive through the month of June, an initiative that donates $1 for every hour worked from a new start in the month to the Inn of the Good Shepherd.
Franchise Owner Bruce Hein said over the past few years, they've been running a June food-drive for the Inn, and that because of the COVID-19 situation this year, staff wanted to find a new way to help.
Hein added a lot of their employers are a little unsure about what things will look like as they start to reopen and ramp-up their business.
"So there's not an abundance of confidence, perhaps, in some of the markets, they don't exactly know what it's going to look like, but they just know they're going to be returning to sort of their operation, I'll call it the new normal, and they really don't know what the staffing situation is going to be like."
Hein said for those out of work, they have a lot of positions to consider.
"Anything from general labourers to file clerks to receptionists, custodial work, sanitation, construction labour, temperature screeners, forklift operators, so we've got a very full gamut of skill sets that we can help fill," he said. "I mean anybody that's out of work, we don't charge any fees to the workers, it's the companies that pay us to find them the talent."
