Arrest made in violent, unprovoked assault

Sarnia police have made an arrest in a violent assault late last year.

On December 29, 2024, Sarnia police were called to Christina Street business at around 1:30 a.m.

Responding officers found a 43-year-old man suffering from obvious head wounds. He was taken to Bluewater Health for treatment.

Surveillance video showed several individuals on bikes approach a man sleeping at an outdoor table.

One of the suspects was seen taking a red bag belonging to the sleeping man, and another allegedly assaulted the victim with a weapon, striking him in the head about a dozen times before leaving the area.

During the six month-long investigation, police identified a 42-year-old male suspect.

Aaron Furstenau of no fixed address is currently being held in custody on unrelated matters.

Police said a warrant has been requested for him to be brought to court to answer to new charges in connection with the attack including assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, robbery, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
