Traditional Port Huron service cancelled but 9/11 still commemorated

This year's traditional 9/11 ceremony was cancelled in Port Huron, but the Michigan city still marked the sombre occasion.

Two Port Huron Police volunteers stood in silence at the International Flag Plaza between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Volunteers also held the Thin Blue Line and Thin Red Line flags in honour of the 72 police officers and 343 firefighters who tragically died in the September 11 terror attacks 19 years ago.

In past years, a delegation from Sarnia Fire and Rescue and city police took part in the Port Huron service but that was not the case this year due to the pandemic.

Canadian and American flags on both sides of the Blue Water Bridge flew at half-mast on Friday.
