Hundreds of golf balls rained down from a crane in a very successful fundraiser at Sarnia's Greystone Golf Course Thursday.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton held its first ever "Big Drop" on the 9th hole of the Confederation Line course.
Executive Director Mike Hurry said they sold all 2,500 tickets.
"We picked it up from the Big Brother Big Sister agency in St. Thomas and they had their ball drop last Saturday," said Hurry. "Our first event and they've done it for years and we sold more than they did so that's the great thing about Sarnia-Lambton, they're very supportive of their organizations."
There was an initial drop Thursday afternoon from a crane donated by Mammoet and then a second drop with 13 balls still in the running.
Ball number 2030 owned by Justin Grove of Bright's Grove ended up closest to the hole and he claimed the winner's prize of $2,500.
Hurry said the event went over very well.
"25 hundred balls at five dollars apiece, and we had about 35 hundred dollars in sponsorships, so 16 thousand dollars before expenses. It went over so well in a situation where we weren't able to be face-to-face selling tickets and we were doing it all online. It was I think incredible for our first event to sell-out," he said.
It's expected another "Big Drop" will be held in 2021.
