A new multi-location arts festival will be held this summer in downtown Sarnia and Mitton Village.
ARTPATH will build on the previous Artwalk.
The free event will feature local and regional artists, showcasing a variety of art forms.
Throughout the different pods there will be a mixture of visual arts, live performances, interactive installations, and culinary offerings.
Co-founder Patrick Coutu said while the event is similar to Artwalk there will be some differences.
"With our association with nuSarnia we really wanted to add the mobility aspect to it, so creating the pods allows people to walk or ride between some of the different vendors and artists and it allows us to create certain themes with each pod," he said.
Artwalk was held for 17 years in the city.
Former co-ordinator Shawn McKnight explained why events like these are important.
"I think it's crucial for communities to have a celebration, like an inclusive celebration, get to know each other," he said. "I know art is working together. Older artists working with younger artists and helping them improve."
The pods will be located at Paddy Flaherty's, Suncor Agora, 301 North Front, George Street from Front Street to Christina Street, Lochiel Street from Front Street to Christina Street, Coldwell Banker, Davis Street from Front Street to Christina Street, Lawrence House and Maud's Variety.
McKnight said the pods will feature a variety of artists of all skill levels.
"I think it's important to include everybody, so I know some people might not want to be alongside artists that they don't think they're at the same level but we can place people in proper areas, just make sure they're included," he said.
The goal is for at least 100 artists to participate.
Co-Ordinator Kylie Marsden said the pods will have different themes.
"We'll have themes like a pet theme where we have pet characters and homemade dog treats and homemade leashes and then we'll have a mind and wellness, live music and a multicultural pod," she said.
Suncor was named as the title sponsor contributing $40,000 towards the event.
Vice President of Suncor Sarnia Conor Poutney said it was a no-brainer to get involved.
"Being able to participate in an event that's going to be really important to Sarnia and our employees is important to us, so we're looking forward to an event like this," he said.
According to the organizers, ARTPATH will be held annually.
Meanwhile, artists looking to participate can submit an application online.
On April 28, organizers will be seeking approval for some small road closures during the event.
The hope is to close Davis Street from Christina Street to Front Street, Lochiel Street from Christina Street to Front Street and George Street from Christina Street to Front Street.
ARTPATH will be held on August 16 and 17.
