Diabetes Canada holding clothing drop-off event in Sarnia

Diabetes Canada is giving Sarnia residents the opportunity to declutter by donating used clothing at a touchless curbside drop-off.

On Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., bagged or boxed clothing will be collected outside the Giant Tiger store at 1249 London Rd.

Donors can remain in their vehicles while masked volunteers take the clothing from vehicle trunks.

The Sarnia event, one of 10 being held across Canada, coincides with Waste Reduction Week.

“Through our clothing donation program, Diabetes Canada diverts 100 million pounds of clothing and small household items from landfill annually,” said Reena Chawla, director of marketing, National Diabetes Trust. “We are very grateful to our generous donors and volunteers for helping us to make an impact on people with diabetes and in reducing waste.”

For those unable to make it to Saturday's drop-off, Diabetes Canada offers a home pick-up service and people can also donate used clothing at one of the agency's donation bins.

Net proceeds from clothing donations go to the charitable work of Diabetes Canada and the support it provides to 11 million Canadians with diabetes and prediabetes.
