Sarnia police are reporting a high number of crashes following the first significant snowfall of the season.
On Tuesday, police said there were double the amount of collisions compared to an average day, and the number of vehicles towed to the collision reporting centre was three times the usual amount.
Constable Nelson Amaral is stressing the importance of clearing your vehicle of snow and ice before heading out.
"You wouldn't attempt to drive blindfolded, so why would you ever chance driving with snow, ice or even fog-covered windows?" said Amaral.
"Take the extra five minutes to clean your windows properly, including your side mirrors and the top of your vehicle. The fine for not having a clear view to the front, sides or rear of your vehicle is $110. The only exception would be a vehicle that isn't equipped with a rear window."
Amaral said if you crash in a snow-covered vehicle, you could face increased fines and penalties.
"Depending on the severity of the incident, you could be looking at more serious charges like careless driving which carries a fine of $490 and a gain of six demerit points. You could also face charges of careless driving causing bodily harm or death or even criminal charges such as criminal negligence depending on the threshold that was met in each circumstance.
"Everyone needs to adjust their speed, and drive according to the weather conditions, not speed limits," he said.
