Deteriorating air quality prompts special advisory

For the second time this week, Environment Canada is advising of poor air quality.

A special air quality statement has been issued for Sarnia-Lambton.

Environment Canada said weather conditions are expected to cause increasing levels of ozone.

Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day Tuesday with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values as a result of ozone combining with residual smoke.

The national weather agency said when air pollution levels are high, people should limit time spent outdoors and consider rescheduling outdoor activities and sports events.

Mild common symptoms residents may experience include eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough.

"More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance," said the statement from Environment Canada.

Residents 65 years old and up are among those more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, as well as pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition and those who work outdoors.

We're advised to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible to protect indoor air from outdoor pollution.
