Sarnia-Lambton's COVID death toll now at 27

Lambton Public Health reported the 27th COVID-19-related death Wednesday.

It's the second death in Sarnia-Lambton in a week after none had been recorded since June 6.

The health unit's Darren Rogers said an individual in their 80s, from Lambton County, died in hospital at a location outside of Lambton County. He said specific details related to cause of death have not been classified at this time but it's suspected COVID-19 worsened other underlying health conditions.

The number of confirmed cases since March has increased by another four to 460, recoveries are up one at 406, which means there are currently 27 active cases. So far this week, 13 new cases have been reported.

Bluewater Health still had three positive patients in hospital Wednesday.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board's COVID advisory page Wednesday showed a new student case at St. Patrick's High School. Board Communications Supervisor Todd Lozon said one class is closed with 26 students having been directed by public health to isolate at home.
