The Easter Bunny will hop around Canatara Park for the 52nd annual Easter in the Park event.
Community Services Coordinator Rachel Veilleux said the City of Sarnia and Seaway Kiwanis Club are excited for the in-person return of this beloved event.
The Easter egg hunt will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16.
"The hunt will be divided into three different areas. We'll have an ages four and under and an accessible area at the Seaway Kiwanis wedding pavilion, an ages seven and under at the playground, and an ages eight and up in front of the BMX track," said Veilleux.
The event is free but children will need to bring their own baskets.
"Whether children have collected one egg or several, they are invited back to the train station to exchange the coloured eggs for a candy and activity sheet giveaway."
New this year, children can also hunt for ceramic eggs, which can be taken to Crock-a-Doodle where they can be painted for free.
"We partnered with Crock-a-Doodle last year for the virtual event that we held and it was really successful so we thought let's try and incorporate it into the egg hunt [this year]," said Veilleux.
She said they typically see hundreds of children participate in the egg hunt and it's always well-received as it's "very much a Sarnia community tradition".
In addition to the egg hunt, other family-fun activities will be held at the park. Veilleux said the animal farm will be open, there will be craft-making, train rides, Ukrainian Easter egg demonstrations (Pysanka), performances by Circus Jonathan at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and a visit from Geoffrey the Giraffe of Toys R Us.
Arguably the most important animal at the park will be the Easter Bunny.
"The Easter Bunny will be there to start off the egg hunt and certainly say 'hello' to everybody that attends the event. The Easter Bunny will have its own throne as well to take pictures and give hugs," Veilleux said.
The entire event at Canatara Park is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
The Seaway Kiwanis Club will be selling hot dogs and refreshments.
