The benefits of operating a licensed home child care business in Lambton County will be discussed at an information night on Tuesday, May 16.
Lambton Rural Child Care and Wee Watch are hosting the session at Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute [LCCVI] in Petrolia from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Lambton Rural Child Care Executive Director Lori Veroude said opening a licensed home child care business can be really rewarding.
"If there are people out there who love children and want to grow a successful business but haven’t taken the leap yet, we are here to encourage and support them to realize their dream," said Veroude.
Finding adequate care has been an issue for families across Sarnia-Lambton.
"Currently we have nine [licensed home child care businesses]," Veroude said. "That's in Lambton County. So, Petrolia, Thedford and Sarnia."
"COVID was a challenging time for home child care. So, we're building those homes up again. With the regulations some providers were nervous to provide care during COVID, so our numbers did drop during COVID."
Veroude said there are advantages to being with an agency.
"Guaranteed payment, you don't have to collect the fees from the families. We help you to find the families, you set your own days, your own care, days of service. So, you can work Monday to Friday, you can work weekends, evenings... it's entirely up to you. It's your business," she added.
Veroude said you can earn between $30,000 and $90,000, if you choose to do regular and flexible hours, and obtaining an Early Childhood Education [ECE] registration is not necessary.
"If they need help with menu planning, child development, they may be struggling with a family or a child, the agency has a trained RECE [ Registered Early Childhood Educator] on staff," said Veroude. "A home visitor who goes out to the homes on a regular basis and assists the provider in offering quality child care in their own home."
Limited child minding is available during the event. You can guarantee a spot by making a child minding reservation online in advance.
