The results of the CAA's Worst Roads campaign are in.
Residents have voted Plank Road in Sarnia as the second worst road in the Southwestern Region.
The intersections at Gladwish Drive and Modeland Road were identified as problem areas, with concerns including potholes, poor road maintenance, and lack of cycling infrastructure.
CAA South Central Ontario Assistant Vice President of Government and Community Relations Teresa Di Felice is optimistic that Plank Road will come off the list in the near future.
"There was $3.8 million for a good chunk of the road which was already completed last year," said Di Felice. "A second phase, which involves the watermain and reconstructing the road around McGregor Road is what's happening this year. Already, the city is budgeting for the third phase of the project for the 2024 budget."
Di Felice said Plank Road has been dropping in the rankings.
It was on the provincewide list in 2018.
Di Felice said overall the Worst Roads campaign has been gaining popularity over the years.
"We had over 3,000 roads nominated across 175 municipalities," she said. "Really, when we compile that top 10 list we're seeing more rural roads compared to those in major cities. We have the regional lists because we recognize the big cities are going to have lots of population to be able to nominate and push roads to the top. That doesn't mean local communities that are smaller haven't taken the opportunity to push and do a grassroots campaign to have their worst road end up on the top 10 list despite competing against cities like Toronto."
Four out of the top five worst roads in the Southwestern Region were in Windsor.
Ontario's worst road was Barton Street East in Hamilton.
