A high-speed chase that started from the Blue Water Bridge and into the city of Port Huron has resulted in one U.S. citizen being arrested.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson told Sarnia News Today that a driver allegedly failed to stop at the port of entry on June 10 and sped off at "a high rate of speed".
CBP officers pursued the suspect vehicle into residential areas of Port Huron but called off the chase due to public safety concerns.
The vehicle was later found, by members of the Port Huron Police Department, abandoned within city limits.
CBP Field Operations, U.S. Border Patrol, and Port Huron police conducted a joint search and located "five subjects." They were taken back to the Blue Water Bridge for processing.
Details about the driver were not released, only that they're a U.S. citizen who faces federal prosecution. Exact charges were not specified.
CBP said the passengers, two Mexico citizens and two citizens from Ecuador, are currently being housed at detention facilities pending adjudication.
