Essex man charged with murder

Provincial police have arrested an Essex man accused in the death of a victim in McGregor over the weekend.

According to Essex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers responded to a report of an assault at a home on Scott Lane in McGregor at around 9:37 p.m. Saturday.

Emergency crews arrived and took a 49-year-old individual to hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

Officers arrested 27-year-old Cody Froese of Essex on scene. He has since been charged with second-degree murder.

“The victim and accused were known to each other and there is believed to be no threat to public safety,” read a statement from the OPP.

Froese remains in police custody for a future court appearance.

Members of the Essex OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate. The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service have also been called in to assist with the case.
