UPDATE: Celebrating the life of Dave Hunter, community champion

The community is still reeling following the passing of music fan, motorcycle enthusiast, local publisher, realtor, and local champion, Dave Hunter.

His wife and children, who loved him immeasurably, confirmed the sad news on Friday on social media.

The family has not said how Hunter died, only that the 48-year-old passed away suddenly.

In his obituary, Hunter is described as a vibrant soul, with an infectious sense of humour.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at the Melady Funeral Home in Belle River.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 7 at Rochester Place Golf Club and Resort - Parkside Grill.

More information about both services can be found here.

Hunter was a native of Corunna, Ontario and a graduate of Sarnia Collegiate Institute and Technical School. Later, he studied at St. Clair College and the University of Windsor.

Hunter was a jack of all trades. As a realtor, he was managing the sale of perhaps Windsor's highest-profile property, the Low Martin Mansion in Walkerville at the time of his death.

Never shy to lend a hand, Hunter soon became known for his work in the community, most recently as Event Chair of the Ride to Survive for Transition to Betterness.

He was also a fearless promoter of Windsor-Essex, which he helped profile in the local publication, "The Drive," which introduced residents to the people behind the scenes who make a difference in our daily lives.

Active on social media, Hunter was known for his love of music and his Sunday morning listening suggestions, a personal feature he called "Sammy's Sunday Morning Over Easy."

Hunter also found himself many admirers among those in the local music scene. The Tea Party drummer Jeff Burrows was among the many who proudly called him a friend.

For many others, he was a mentor.

Hunter's family is asking that lieu of flowers, donations be made to T2B - The Ride to Survive in his name.
