Talented artists in Sarnia-Lambton are being sought after to create murals in Petrolia's historic downtown, as part of a revitalization project.
“We are thrilled to announce this mural initiative, which will showcase the immense talent of our local artists and create a dynamic and visually stimulating downtown Petrolia environment,” said Petrolia’s Director of Marketing, Arts, and Communications Laurissa Ellsworth.
SLEP's Downtown Revitalization Coordinator Leena Bourne said they're looking for three to seven local artists to update and design murals.
"They all need to be historically themed for Petrolia. [Next year] is Petrolia's 150th anniversary so that's why we're really getting a jump on these murals," she said. "Some of the data we collected with the downtown revitalization project is saying, 'We want some upgrades aesthetically to the downtown.'"
Artists must submit their portfolios for consideration by July 29.
Bourne said they're hoping to contact successful applicants by early August and have murals completed by this fall.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for collaboration in our communities. We are hoping to see portfolios that show a diverse range in abilities and talents," said SLEP's Small Business Enterprise Manager Chantelle Core.
SLEP is specifically looking for artists who have completed a minimum of five works within the last five years.
Submitted portfolios must include artwork photos, dimensions, and the date of completion for all past mural jobs.
Portfolios can be shared as a Google Drive link, OneDrive link, or by dropping off a USB at the Petrolia municipal office, located at 411 Greenfield St. Digital submissions can be sent to Bourne at lbourne@sarnialambton.on.ca.
