Corunna resident wins backyard Home Improvement Lottery

Joanne Dunn of Corunna was the lucky winner of the $50,000 backyard makeover, through the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton's Home Improvement Lottery.

A draw was held at Lambton Mall Thursday afternoon and live-streamed over Facebook.

"Thanks to all of our volunteers, sales outlets and most importantly to all those who supported us by buying a ticket or [two]," read a social media post. "We will be back next year bigger and better."

The prize includes a consultation and design plan with local Landscaper and Architect John DeGroot, who was also at Thursday's event.

"We're happy to play a role in helping put this thing together," DeGroot said.

He also briefly spoke about Alzheimer's and how the disease affects so many people.

Over $74,000 was raised through the lottery. Funds will support local programs and services.

In the past, the Home Improvement Lottery focused on kitchen renovations but Manager of Fund Development and Communications Marie Marcy-Smids previously said they wanted to try something different this year with the backyard edition.
