A local skating club will be getting some tips from one of Canada's figure skating champions.
Two-time Olympic silver medalist Elvis Stojko and his wife Gladys Orozca will be joining skaters with the Brooke-Alvinston Skating Club on Friday, March 15.
Club President Lindsay Alderman said it will be a full day for the skaters and their special guests.
"They're experiencing on ice and off ice, so a whole mixture of learning spins and jumps and just different techniques from him and then Gladys will do a lot of the edgework and choreography and the fun musical aspect to it," said Alderman.
Alderman said the skaters will also have the opportunity to have lunch with the couple.
She said that one of the head coaches sent a submission for Stojko to come to the club a few years ago.
"Our application was submitted quite some time ago and then we were (recently) given the opportunity to have him come to our club and it needed to be kind of now or never," said Alderman.
She added that while some of the younger skaters may not know his legacy they're excited to learn from him.
"Just the idea of skating with a professional figure skater is very exciting for them," Alderman said.
According to Alderman, this was made possible by support from their sponsors.
Stojko will also be joining Stars on Ice in May in London.
