LPH issues well water testing reminder

Recent heavy rainfall has prompted an advisory from Lambton Public Health.

The health unit is reminding homeowners with private wells on their property to test the water supply to make sure it's safe to drink.

LPH said recent high water levels, flood conditions, and saturated grounds could allow harmful bacteria to enter the drinking water, making it unsafe for consumption.

“If you haven’t routinely tested your well or it has been impacted by recent flooding events, we encourage you to use bottled water for daily use including drinking, making infant formula or juices, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, and brushing teeth," read the advisory. "Alternatively, you can boil your water rapidly for at least one minute before use.”

Free bacteria testing and water sampling kits are available at Lambton Public Health on Exmouth Street, as well as at CEE Hospital in Petrolia.
