Chrysler recalls over 17,000 vehicles in Canada due to software issue

Thousands of pickup trucks and SUVs sold in Canada are included in an international recall.

Stellantis-owned Chrysler announced on Monday that it had issued a recall of over 236,000 SUVs and pickup trucks due to a software malfunction.

"A routine review of customer feedback led to a company investigation that discovered some 2022 Dodge Ram heavy-duty trucks and 2022 Dodge Durango vehicles may be equipped with anti-lock braking system module software that could inadvertently disable the Electronic Stability Control system," said Stellantis spokesman Frank Matyok in an email.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the recall involves 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, and 2022 Dodge Durangos, produced between April 2021 and December 2022.

Most vehicles were sold in the U.S., but 17,462 were sold in Canada. The rest were bought in Mexico and elsewhere.

Affected vehicle owners will soon get a recall notice in the mail, and can have the issue corrected free of charge at a Stellantis dealership. Vehicle owners with questions should contact their dealership's service department.

No injuries or crashes have been reported due to the defect.
