Last household hazardous waste collection event before fall

The County of Lambton will host its last household hazardous waste collection event before fall, in St. Clair Township this Saturday, June 22.

The Clean Harbors site, at 4090 Telfer Road., will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for drop off.

"Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile depot," said Public Works Manager Matt Deline. "These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment."

Examples of the materials include batteries, drain and oven cleaners, pool chemicals, pesticides, aerosols, paints, and propane cylinders.

For safety reasons, officials ask that lithium batteries be separated from all other battery types before drop-off.

Pharmaceuticals, sharps (hypodermic needles) and fluorescent lightbulbs are also accepted.

Commercial, industrial, and radioactive wastes, electronics, and explosives like flares and ammunition will not be accepted.

More details can be found here.

The next household hazardous waste collection event will be held on September 21 at the Telfer Road site.
