Fourth annual SOAR to return to Sarnia's airport this weekend

Vintage aircraft will be flying into Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport this weekend for the fourth annual Sarnia Ontario Aviation Rally (SOAR).

Arrivals will start after 4 p.m. on Friday, August 9 ahead of Saturday's main event.

"It's something to bring folks out to see their airport, see where their tax money is going and to showcase aviation, general aviation and promote having an airport and the things it can do for the community," said SOAR Coordinator Mark Seibutis.

There will be static viewing displays of ex-military, new, homebuilt and production aircraft.

Additionally, Col. Chris Hadfield will be in attendance for a signing of his new book at Hangar 10 on Saturday.

Seibutis said the flight school will open the event.

"This is where it all starts, you start with a private license first before you ever become an airline pilot or in the air force," he said.

COPA 7 President Bruce Bond said this is something the organization wants to promote.

"They want to mentor new pilots, young and old to enjoy aviation and to see what it's all about," he said.

The free event which includes a fly-in is on from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Donations will be accepted for Pathways Health Centre of Children.
