Trump, Slotkin declared winners in Michigan

Unofficial vote totals in Tuesday night's presidential election have finally revealed winners in Michigan.

ABC News reported Wednesday afternoon that Donald Trump won Michigan's 15 electoral votes. The Republican nominee and former president beat Vice-President Kamala Harris, a Democrat, by just over 83,000 votes, with 99 per cent of polling places reporting.

Michigan had been part of the so-called "blue wall", a line of states that had, along with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, traditionally voted Democratic. Polls had given Harris a slight advantage before the vote. Trump flipped all three states when winning his first term in 2016, and current President Joe Biden flipped them back in 2020.

The Wolverine State also had a closely-watched U.S. Senate race to find a successor to retiring Democrat Debbie Stabenow.

Democratic Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin was declared the unofficial winner on Wednesday afternoon, having defeated Republican Mike Rogers. Slotkin was leading the former Congressman by just over 16,000 votes with 97 per cent of precincts reporting.

The results must still be certified.
