Plympton-Wyoming Council has significantly scaled back the proposed redesignation of its Lake Huron shoreline area.
Council met in special session Wednesday afternoon to address public concerns about the loss of prime agricultural land and overdevelopment.
Chief Administrative Officer Carolyn Tripp says the official plan amendment now redesignates about 800 acres from restricted agricultural to lakeshore residential.
"They scaled it back to approximately half of what was initially proposed, focusing on lands around Camlachie, Errol Village and Bonnie Dune which is about 500 acres," says Tripp. "It would merge the three settlement areas together. That's the primary focus now, not along the entire lakeshore."
Other small pockets of land are also included in the amendment that now goes to Lambton County Council for final approval in its official plan.
The county's draft official plan review committee is to consider it Friday.
Tripp says county approval is needed before the municipality can finalize its amendment following public input.
