Several athletes had impressive performances at the OFSAA Track and Field Championship in Belleville.
Northern's Avery Smiley won gold in the midget boys 100 m hurdles with a time of 14.12. LCCVI's Marissa Mueller won gold in the senior girls javelin with a toss of 44.77 m, beating second place by five metres.
North Lambton's Olivia Freer (5.16 m) won gold in midget girls long jump, while Paige Vrolyk (11.04 m) from St Pat's won bronze in junior girls triple jump. Aiden Wildfong, also from St. Pat's, threw 16.68 m to win bronze in senior boys shot putt.
Josh Grondin, from Alexander Mackenzie, won bronze in mens 800 m Ambulatory.
Call it the Derek Drouin effect if you want, but there were a pair of local medal winners in high jump events.
Northern's Sebastian Smith jumped 2.05 m to win gold in the senior boys high jump. Ella Sottosanti from St. Pat's cleared 1.55 m to win silver in the midget girls high jump.
Several other athletes narrowly missed the podium.
